How a story is actually created
- You choose a theme and tone - for example, an Underwater Discovery story with a Calming tone.
- Sleepy Spell asks our secure server for a story using only those generic choices. The request does not include your child's name, age, or anything that identifies them. The server never sees who your child is.
- The server sends back a story built around that theme and tone.
- Your device personalizes it. Your child's name and details - which live only on your phone - are woven into the story locally.
- Your device narrates it using on-device voices.
- The finished, personalized story is saved on your phone, not uploaded anywhere.
The result: a story that stars your child by name, created without our servers ever knowing who your child is.

That distinction is the whole point. We moved story generation to our servers so we could offer richer stories and better narration - but we designed it so the part that identifies your child stays with you.
Why we changed how this works
Earlier versions of Sleepy Spell generated everything on the device. We moved story creation to secure servers to make the stories richer and the voices better. Some apps would have used that change as an excuse to start collecting data. We did the opposite: we kept every piece of information about your child on your phone, and made sure our servers only ever see an anonymous request. We think that is a stronger, more honest privacy promise than "nothing ever talks to a server" - because it is one we can actually keep while still improving the app.
